lachlan parry is an emerging writer and creative living on the land of the Gadigal people.

what you need to know

  • lachlan grew up in sydney’s south, the sutherland shire (or as he likes to call it, the queensland of sydney). he discovered his love for writing through his primary school newspaper with a fictional series, wallaby flats, about a group of australian animals who became friends. wholesome. he later started writing harry potter fanfic. not so wholesome.

lachlan has always had a clear voice and a strong sense of self. once as a child, he cut holes in a beer box and wore it on his head for an entire family fishing trip, out of protest of not wanting to go in the first place. his work nowadays is less about the unfairness of fishing and is often driven by a conversation he sees taking place out in the world.

despite the best efforts of many hyaluronic acids, lachlan looks older than he is - and has lived many lives. he prides himself on his resilience through the good and the bad. he values writing from authethic lived experience and exploring the pathos of comedy.

when not writing, he can be found provoking his two cats, manicuring his five star animal crossing island (yes still, no, it’s not sad), and baking treats to ensure people love him.

  • while in london lachlan wrote and co-directed a new work titled three sisters, which played at the marylebone theatre. he has also written on a number of sketch comedy shows, most notably a queer is born. lachlan’s second play, how to win a plebiscite (and tennis) featured at the end of 2022 in nida’s festival of emerging artists.

lachlan has written two short films, notably tonight’s the night and coffee, which have both featured in local and international film festivals. lachlan was recently shortlisted for the born writers award for his short film script this house is mine now which wrapped production in early 2023.

he was a featured writer for the 2019 anthology infinite threads. he was also a member of atyp’s 2022 national studio which went on to him being selected for the intersection festival in 2023 with his piece, violet. In 2023, lachlan is continuing his relationship with atyp as one of their fresh ink participants.

the origin of most of his work can be traced back to something deranged he thumbed into the notes app on his phone at an ungodly hour of the morning. this process is yet to fail him.

  • lachlan has an mfa in writing for performance from nida. lachlan also studied scripted television at regent’s university in london and creative writing at university of technology sydney.
lachlan is proud to be public school educated.
